Happy New Year, gone with A Private Storm

Happy New Years!!!!!!!!!
I know this is 2 months overdue but I was just getting adjusted to school and classes. Thank you so much for the inspirational comments. I'm so thankful to God for allowing to see the New Year and I'm thankful he's always been with me. Even when I start deviate or worry, he's always there subtly calling me back.

I agree, it's been a while and soooo much has happened. I was even writing a post about movies to watch out for in the New Years but Firefox crashed and nothing was saved, was so frustrated but I love updating you guys on what has been going on, so baby steps.

The First movie that I'm going to review is A Private Storm, not because it was that amazing but it stands out in my mind as it addressed an important issue.
So, the movie stars OmoT, Ramsey Nouah, John Dumelo, Ngozi Ezeonu and Ufuoma Ejenobor. It was written and produced by Vivian Ejike, the same woman behind Silent Scandals. It was directed by Lancelot Oduwa.  It was nominated for two African Movies Academy Awards, including a best supporting actor nod for JD. Was quite proud of him.

Storyline
In Lagos, Gina is engaged to Alex, who is abusive, jealous and controlling but also charming, handsome and sexy when he wants to be. In Abuja, we see Jason who has relationship problems as his spoilt girlfriend goes on  about his late nights and philandering nature. We see how both stories merge for tragic ending.
Spoiler Alert!!!!

Acting
I liked the acting. I love Ramsey Noah so much in this movie, he was quite scary when he was beating up Gina but so romantic at other times. I have to say though, these types of roles for Ramsey are so stereotypical, lover boy with a twist. I really wish he would not be so comfortable and challenge his self more often. Nonetheless, it was a solidly good performance. I hated him so much the way he made her quit her job, got her into an accident, beat her all the time but when he'll come back to apologise, he'll shower with all the good things in life, even me I will fall for that oh.

OmoT, if you've been following my blog, you might have picked up on the fact that I'm not exactly a fan of OmoT just because I think her acting has gone down. And I'm all for sexy mamas and all that but come on, she was acting the role of a recent University graduate and I just found that quite unbelievable. Her acting was pretty good despite that, there were some times when I felt it was too much but I liked it though.

JD, was uber sexy in this movie, and so funny. I honestly didn't think his acting was anything special but I would watch it again for him. The scene where he wakes up to find his girlfriend had taken his clothes and has to go for a business meeting is sooo funny, he goes, "Devil is a Liar!" And I'm laughing so hard.

Richie, Alex's friend and Gina's boss, was quite a dapper young man. First time seeing him and I was so impressed. Mehn, not only was he good looking but his acting was so believable. Same will go for Tony, Gina's old friend from school.
Uju, Gina's jobless but rich friend was a little too overactive but i thought she was a solid enough act. She was the friend in Guilty Pleasures also but I don't know what it is, it's obvious her accent is not forced but everytime she talked I would cringe. She was a solid act though, maybe down the accent a bit.

Abuse
I've never been in an abusive relationship so I can't say I understand but I will definitely try. I like that the movie addressed such a important issue, I mean Alex chased Gina to the bathroom twice, caused a car crash, deserted her in night all because he was jealous and she will be coming back to him. He will create one sob story about how he will change and she will take him back. One time, he ordered her to quit because his Richie said and I quote, "Yes, she is beautiful but she is also smart..and I'm glad I took your advice and hired." He got so jealous and was like, "Are you havng ideas about my woman?" I don't even see the connection.
But we later see the reason for Alex's insecurities and I don't wanna spoil it for y'all

Movie Length
This movie was in 3 parts which I felt was highly unnecessary as it weakened the story so much. There were too many scenes where there was no dialogue; all those spa scenes, JD scenes where he is just chatting on facebook and I really did not understand what was going on. The story got dry and monotonous at some parts but it was still really good

Make Up
The make up was beautiful in this movie, like it wasn't looking too much or anything. It actually got nominated for an AMA award.

Picture and Sound were pretty good. A little iffy at times but good

The soundtrack and set for this movie, I said to myself, "Self, do they think the audience is that stupid?" It was the same as in Silent Scandals, like everything. Was it by force to use the same???

Conclusion
This was a solidly good movie. I will definitely recommend buying it, it addresses an major issue and we should also support our Naij brothers and sisters doing big things. A little dragged but I actually went back to watch it again because I enjoyed it and I hope you do.

Let me know what you think though, I will be more than happy to hear your thoughts

P.S I hope to review Bursting Out and Empty Coffin next. If there's any movie that you want reviewed, pls just holla at your girl.
I also hope to do a post on movies that I'm anticipating for in 2011, but I don't know everything so please, just drop your ideas. Thanks

Till next post,
Love you and God Bless
