These are the looks from Kemkem Studio's Autumn/Winter 2011/12 collection - Heritage Part 2. I love that she used Aso-oke, which is kinda like an ancient fabric and made something beautiful out of it, Great job!
The inspiration comes from my love for the Aso-Oke fabric (hand woven fabric from the Yoruba culture). I have been experimenting with the fabric for a while now. We make our Aso-Oke so it is exclusive but this time around I also collected and used vintage Aso-Oke from my clients, friends and families. We have infused the ancient fabric with new age fabrics here like Silk, Ankara, Cotton jersey and Lace. I decided to make a wearable Aso-Oke collection that suited a fun and playful lifestyle. Lots of looks that can be carried from day to evening, multi purpose clothing. A bit of the old and new, yet contemporary. - Kemmy Solomon.Sources: www.bellanaija.com
